For a family and its accountant.
The rules, in plain words
Draft reading copy of the starter rules. The words are the owner's to approve, and a lawyer has not yet cleared anything that touches tax or law.
These are where a family starts. A household chooses its own, and every change to a rule is logged where everyone can see it.
Money in, money out, and the people around it (1 to 26)
- Everyone gets a base amount of Personal Spending, set by the keeper, plus an optional bonus for contributing. It never goes below the base.a household chooses its own
- When the Pot runs low, C0MP0UND can trim Personal Spending, but only up to a maximum percent the keeper sets for each cycle. The trim is the same share for everyone and never takes anyone to zero.a household chooses its own
- Bills are paid first, then card top-ups, then Personal Spending and savings. A card's required minimum is paid with the bills. Only what is added beyond the minimum waits behind them.a household chooses its own
- If someone sends income around the Pot, C0MP0UND does not police it. The open ledger is the answer: everyone can see.a household chooses its own
- A new member gets only the base amount until one full cycle of ledger history exists.a household chooses its own
- Changes a keeper makes to the rules are always logged and visible. If a family has more than one keeper, changes go to a vote.a household chooses its own
- Business income has its own ledger and a set percent that goes to the family. Each transfer appears in the family's books as ordinary income.a household chooses its own
- When a family splits, by divorce or a permanent move out, the Pot is paused and C0MP0UND produces a full export. A new family is started by a person, never automatically.a household chooses its own
- Income that is reversed or taken back becomes a tracked negative balance. It is taken gradually from future Personal Spending, never all at once.a household chooses its own
- A connected account that drops off is paused, not deleted. Personal Spending keeps adding up as a credit until it reconnects.a household chooses its own
- A request that is unusually large for that person alerts every keeper straight away, not only a line in a log.a household chooses its own
- Sign-in safety, meaning the PIN, the timeout and signing out a lost phone, belongs to the app's sign-in and not to the family's rules.set by the app, not by a household
- Money moved from a business to a person is tagged for tax at the moment it moves.a household chooses its own
- A person under 18 belongs to exactly one family at a time. Moving them needs the outgoing keeper's acknowledgment, by vote.a household chooses its own
- Someone who comes back after leaving gets a new, linked record. What was agreed when they left stays as written and is never reopened.a household chooses its own
- Outside help can deposit without being a member, without a login and without a view of anything. Every deposit carries a purpose and names who it is for.a household chooses its own
- Each income event is tagged W-2, 1099 or mixed, starting from the person's own setting.a household chooses its own
- Income tagged 1099 sets aside a percentage the keeper chooses into Tax Set-Aside before it counts as spendable.a household chooses its own
- W-2 income skips the set-aside. Any refund estimate shown is information only and never moves money.a household chooses its own
- C0MP0UND never works out real tax owed. It shows estimates only. Filing is for a person and an accountant.a household chooses its own
- A missed expected deposit from outside help raises a heads-up at the same level as a missed bill.a household chooses its own
- A deposit credited to the wrong person is fixed with a logged adjustment, never a quiet edit.a household chooses its own
- Tax Set-Aside money is kept apart. Bills, Personal Spending and card top-ups cannot draw on it.a household chooses its own
- Going through the set-aside at filing time is for a person and an accountant. Releasing what is left needs a keeper's clear action and is never automatic.a household chooses its own
- A new set-aside percentage applies from then on. It is never reworked backwards.a household chooses its own
- No one's spending data is ever sold, and no family's. C0MP0UND is paid for by subscription only. Sharing combined, anonymous data is not part of the first version.a household chooses its own
The Trust, the Compound and what grows (27 to 38)
- The Trust is permanent and runs across generations. It does not reset or dissolve when someone leaves the family they started in. A person's share stays theirs whichever family they belong to.a household chooses its own
- Businesses and the Compound can belong to the Trust instead of to one family, so ownership survives a split, a divorce or a death.a household chooses its own
- When the family chips in to expand the Compound, it is always a call on the Trust, logged as one. It is never a quiet draw from someone's own account.a household chooses its own
- Putting money to work is always the same four steps: proposed, projected, voted, carried out. C0MP0UND shows a one-year range and never a single confident number, and every projection carries a note of its assumptions.a household chooses its own
- Returns are split by a written rule between what is paid out and what stays in. Changing that split always goes to a vote, even for a keeper.a household chooses its own
- New modules start off. Turning one on opens a vote that every member must answer before it switches on.a household chooses its own
- The Floor has two layers. One is an amount the keeper sets, active from day one. The other is an optional amount C0MP0UND works out from two or three months of real bills. The worked-out amount never replaces the set one by itself. It is put to a vote.a household chooses its own
- The check of a big purchase against the Floor only reads. It gives a pass or a fail against the family's own number, and never a recommendation.a household chooses its own
- Connecting a personal account is optional and up to each person. Its full detail stays private to that person. Only what a keeper has explicitly confirmed joins the family's totals. Nothing confirms itself.a household chooses its own
- Chat has two lanes. One is fixed commands, the only lane that can change anything. The other is an AI guide that reads a summary of the family's numbers and answers in text. It cannot carry anything out, vote, judge spending or move money. If it is not switched on, it says so and does not fake an answer.a household chooses its own
- C0MP0UND watches the Pot as a whole, never one person's spending. Left to grow is what stays after the Floor and the family's passed goals. Firsts open as the Pot reaches them and stay open after a dip. Anything shown about them comes with its full math.a household chooses its own
- Borrowing from the Trust is a recorded family decision with an amount, a purpose and a note of what it is borrowed against. Every member can see it. It is capped at the value of that item. C0MP0UND records it and does not move the money.a household chooses its own
Added 2026-10-27, how votes and keepers work (39 to 42)
- A member may stand aside on any vote. Standing aside is recorded with the person's name and the time. It counts neither way: it is not a Yes, not a No, and it does not change the base the result is measured against. The ballot always offers Stand aside beside Yes and No, the same size.a household chooses its own
- Only seated members' ballots count. If someone departs while a vote is open, their ballot is removed and the result is worked out again on those who remain. Someone who joins in the middle of a vote cannot vote in it. They are seated for the next one.a household chooses its own
- A cast ballot is final. Before it is cast, the app shows the exact wording of the motion and asks for confirmation. Once cast, it cannot be changed or withdrawn.a household chooses its own
- A family may have more than one keeper. The keepers name a successor, so the family is never without one. A keeper steps out of any vote that names them. Removing a keeper takes a vote of the other seated members, or that keeper's own consent.a household chooses its own
