For a family reading how it works.
How it works
The family decides. C0MP0UND carries it out.
Four pools
- The Pot
- Everyone's pay goes in. Bills come out of it. Everyone sees every dollar in and out. The rules sometimes call it the treasury. The family can pick a Floor, the lowest it wants the Pot to go. Goals and big purchases are checked against the Floor, and C0MP0UND shows whether they fit.
- Mine
- Each person's own spending money, called Personal Spending. The keeper sets a base amount that is never undercut, with an optional bonus for contributing. Someone new starts at the base until one full cycle of history exists.
- Tax Set-Aside
- For income that has no tax taken out, a percentage the family chooses is set aside before the rest counts as spendable. It is kept apart: bills, spending and card top-ups cannot draw on it. It is an estimate, not tax owed. Filing is for a person and their accountant.
- The Trust
- Permanent, and across generations. Each person holds a share and a seat. A share stays theirs if they move out of the family where they started. Businesses and the family Compound can belong to the Trust, so ownership survives a split or a death.
The order of the month
Bills come first. Then card top-ups beyond a card's minimum. Then Personal Spending. What remains after the Floor and the family's goals is called Left to grow.
How a decision is made
Big purchases, rule changes and turning on anything new are each a vote. The choices are Yes, No and Stand aside, drawn the same size. C0MP0UND counts the votes and carries out the result. It never casts a vote, never breaks a tie and never overrides a No. A vote has no timeout, and silence is silence, not an answer.
Before a ballot is cast, the exact wording is shown and you confirm it. Once cast, a ballot is final.
Who is in a family
- A keeper looks after the family's setup. A family can have more than one, and the keepers name a successor so it is never without one.
- Adults and people under 18 each have their own seat, and each is named by name.
- Outside help, such as a parent who lives elsewhere, can send money to the family with no login and no view of the Pot. Each deposit says what it is for and who it is for.
